Web3 browser-based chess title Anichess has entered public alpha, announcing a concurrent partnership with Yield Guild Games (YGG) to expand the reach of the game.
Developed as a collaboration between Animoca Brands, Chess.com, and grandmaster Magnus Carlsen, Anichess adds a unique twist to the classic game by introducing a variety of unique mechanics, such as the ability to swap the positions of pieces, move pieces in unique ways, and much more.
The partnership with YGG hopes to expand the presence of Anichess in Southeast Asia – a key region where the game has already seen a huge amount of interest.

What is Anichess?
Released in January 2024, Anichess is a browser-based chess title that puts a unique spin on the well-loved board game.
By adding a variety of additional moves and mechanics, Anichess presents a new challenge to veteran chess players, whilst giving newcomers a high-speed introduction to the game – and a way to turn the tables on more experienced opponents.
Anichess features an array of digital assets – supported by the with their Orbs of Power NFTs giving players particular challenges that can lead to interesting and unique changes to standard chess gameplay.
Since release, the game has acquired over 1 million registered wallets, and has a reported 30,000 monthly active players.

How will Anichess and YGG work together?
Anichess will be working in partnership with Yield Guild Games (YGG) to expand the game’s exposure in Southeast Asia – already one of the most active regions for the title.
YGG Pilipinas will be key in this initiative, organising a forthcoming online tournament in October, and an in-person event at the YGG Play Summit in Manila this November.
