Blockchain-based game studio Battlebound has officially ceased operations. As a result, development on its creature-collecting game Anterris has been paused indefinitely.
The shutdown comes shortly after a public playtest of Anterris on the Monad testnet, which ran from 19 to 23 February. Despite reported player interest during the test period, the studio stated it could no longer sustain operations.
The company announced its closure on X, citing financial difficulties and the inability to secure additional funding.

Why is Battlebound shutting down?
In its public statement, Battlebound explained that the decision to close was due to an extended period of financial instability. The studio had been attempting to secure new funding whilst operating with limited resources, but ultimately ran out of capital.
“We’ve been building for four years with a lean, scrappy team, extending our runway as far as possible,” the studio wrote. “We’re in the same position as many studios before us, closing our doors due to remarkably challenging market dynamics.”
The studio’s situation mirrors that of other independent developers who have been affected by declining investment in the gaming and tech sectors. Economic uncertainty and a slowdown in venture funding have impacted both traditional and blockchain-focused studios.

What’s next for Anterris?
With the studio closed, development on Anterris has been suspended for the foreseeable future. The team referred to this as a “pause,” but gave no indication that the game would continue under another entity or publisher.
Anterris was a third-person game in which players collected and battled 3D creatures, integrating blockchain-based assets such as NFTs. It had been available for limited testing through Steam and was recently featured during Monad’s testnet launch in February.
No further updates have been provided regarding the status of the game’s assets, infrastructure, or any plans to make them accessible in the future.
