This news came as somewhat of a shock, as Holguin – a former President at Billboard – had been in the role since May 2022, and Doodles were coming off the back of a very strong 2024. This included the release of animated film Dullsville and the Doodleverse, major partnerships with both McDonald’s and PlayStation, and a teaser for an upcoming Doodles token.
Reaction from the community has been mixed. Some are excited to see the man behind the project once again take a leading role, whilst others question the move following Doodles recent success.
In his statement announcing the change, Burnt Toast said that “the extractive corpo era of doodles is over” – which many have considered to be a parting shot towards Holguin and has vision for Doodles.

Why did Julian Holguin leave Doodles?
As of writing, there has been no statement from Holguin on his decision to depart Doodles – and no official word from Doodles other than the statement from Burnt Toast.
This leaves any analysis down to speculation – difficult given the limited public information. Amongst the community, some believe that there may have been internal disagreements with the future direction of Doodles as a brand, or even opposing opinions on big-ticket future items, such as a token launch.
Regardless, until there is a statement from Holguin himself, we simply won’t know why he left the Doodles team.

What does this mean for Doodles?
In the short-term, news of Burnt Toast stepping in to the CEO role has made no tangible difference to the floor price of Doodles. As of writing, the floor price of Doodles sits at 4.44 ETH (around $14,000 USD).
Despite some confusion over Holguin stepping down from the CEO role, many in the community are excited to see Burnt Toast back at the helm.
Poopie, a co-founder of Doodles, has backed the move, stating that he’s “backing BT every step of the way” – adding that “Doodles dares to disrupt”, and that they’re on the verge of “the greatest pivot in NFTs.”
With Burnt Toast’s Web3-native roots, vision for the brand, and clear intention to release a Doodles token, there’s plenty of excitement around his new vision for Doodles. This new vision embraces “risk, disruption, radical transparency and the authenticity that made us who we are in the first place” – with “big things coming”.
