Web3 MMO Cambria Expands to the Abstract Chain

Cambria, a RuneScape-inspired web3 MMO, is expanding to the Abstract Chain ahead of its Season 2 launch, making it the third blockchain supported by the game, alongside Ronin and Blast.

Abstract Chain is a newly-launched Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain developed by Igloo Inc., the parent company of Pudgy Penguins. It aims to simplify blockchain interactions by integrating familiar web2 experiences with web3 functionality.

With over $130 million in game volume and 100,000+ lifetime players since its inception, Cambria’s expansion to Abstract—described as the “#1 consumer chain”—aims to grow its player base even further and make the game more accessible to web3 players, particularly those preferring Pudgy Penguins’ ecosystem.

What is Cambria?

Cambria is a browser-based risk-to-earn MMO featuring a top-down fantasy world with on-chain stakes. It originally launched on Blast before joining Ronin in 2024, evolving into a multi-chain web3 game with NFT-based progression systems like Cambria Cores and Companions.

Players engage in “degen-native” gameplay through activities like Gold Rush and Duel Arena.

Gold Rush is the game’s core mode, where players gather finite resources to craft essential supplies for high-stakes dungeon runs. Gold Rush zones are PvP and PvE, so collecting the valuable loot on offer can be risky.

The Duel Arena focuses on PvP combat, allowing players to wager ETH in 1v1 battles. From Season 2, the Duel Arena will become more event-based and rewards will shift to Abstract XP for those competing in the weekend events.

What do we know about the collaboration?

Cambria took to X to announce their partnership with the Abstract Chain, teasing that details would follow in conjunction with the roll out of Season 2.

It is anticipated that exclusive rewards and incentives for users playing on the Abstract chain will be offered during Season 2, which is expected to launch in late February or early March.

The multi-chain MMO’s second season will feature major upgrades to the in-game economy, “gamble dungeons” with high-risk, high-reward mechanics, and a revamped Duel Arena rewarding players with Abstract XP during special events and community game nights.
