Web3 4X strategy MMO Civitas has announced an impending migration to the Immutable zkEVM, moving the game from the Ethereum Layer-1 blockchain to one of its leading Layer-2 networks.
In the official announcement, Civitas claimed that moving to Immutable will allow them to “build a player-owned world that grows with its community” in a way that’s “faster, more [secure], and at a whole new scale.”
As part of the migration, Civitas will integrate the Immutable Passport – the chain’s simple Web3 wallet solution – and whilst the Chosen of Civitas NFT collection will remain on Ethereum, these assets will be fully-interoperable within the game, and compatible with future Immutable-based assets.

What is Civitas?
Civitas is a 4X strategy MMO, built on Ethereum – though soon to migrate to Immutable – and available on PC.
Developed by Directive Games, Civitas is slated as “the world’s first community-driven 4X strategy game powered by blockchain technology.” With gameplay inspired by titles such as Civilization, and lore loosely-based on ancient Rome, players extract resources from their land to build towns, expand, and trade with other players.
Player-made towns can acquire citizenship of local cities, with each city being a sub-DAO that allows all of its citizens to influence policy, council members, treasury spend and much more.
The game will feature Immutable technology at its core, powering key systems such as land, resources, citizenship and more.

What’s next for Civitas?
Civitas is currently working on the migration to Immutable, with an exact date for the switch yet to be announced.
The team have stated that in the coming weeks, they will be sharing more information on “Immutable Passport integration”, “smart contract migration”, “upcoming content drops” and much more.
Players are encouraged to sign up for a DG account – used across all Directive Games titles – and an IMX wallet, to ensure a smooth transition to the Immutable-based version of Civitas once the migration has taken place.
Earlier today, Civitas shared a teaser video for The Tower – an in-development multiplayer hub that will enable players to access quests, academies, research options and much more. Further developments are expected to be shared via the Civitas socials in due course.
