Popular NFT collection Cool Cats has teased the introduction of a new token, after reacting to a community tweet that speculated its future introduction.
In a tweet, @stoopidwiseman pointed out that a recent episode of The Milk Chug – Cool Cats’ Titmouse-produced animated shorts series – features a customer trying to pay for a coffee using a currency with Blue Cat’s face on it, and speculated that these coins could be alpha for a new token.
The official Cool Cats account then retweeted the post with a cryptic addition. Clon, the creator of Cool Cats, added fuel to the speculation by commenting with the eyes emoji, leading many in the community to believe that a token could once again be a part of the Cool Cats ecosystem.
What is Cool Cats?
Cool Cats is a 9,999-piece NFT avatar collection, based on Ethereum.
Minted in July 2021, Cool Cats was one of the collections at the heart of the 2021 NFT boom, reaching an all-time high floor price of 15 ETH in January 2022. They are perhaps best known for an appearance at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2023, after winning a contest for an NFT collection to appear at the event.
The collection has recently seen a revival. In December 2024, Gary Vaynerchuk announced his acquisition of a Cool Cats NFT, raising the floor price from 0.68 ETH to 1.70 ETH before a correction. As of writing, Cool Cats currently sit at a floor price of 1.14 ETH.
Doesn’t Cool Cats already have a token?
This wouldn’t be the first time that the Cool Cats NFT collection has been connected to a token.
Cool Cats debuted their first community token, $MILK, in February 2022, built on Polygon. $MILK was a key aspect of Cool Pets – the first Cool Cats companion collection – and their browser-based Cooltopia experiences.
Entering 2023, and with the subsequent debut of other companion collections such as Shadow Wolves and SideKX, both the $MILK token and Cooltopia took a back seat. Both $MILK and Cooltopia were officially sunset in July 2023.
With Gary Vaynerchuk’s recent Cool Cats purchase, the Cool Cats team publicly expressing warmth towards community speculation on a new token, and the recent success of token’s such as Pudgy Penguins’ $PENGU and Magic Eden‘s $ME, the community is excitedly anticipating further information in the near future.
