Popular metaverse platform Decentraland is preparing to release a desktop client that promises significant improvements to both graphics and performance.
The update is designed to address the technical challenges users have faced with the browser-based version, which has been criticized for its performance limitations.
The new desktop client will be available in public beta starting October 22, offering users a more refined and immersive experience within its ecosystem.

What to expect from this update?
The desktop client introduces upgraded visuals and enhanced in-game mechanics, whilst maintaining Decentraland’s signature cartoonish style.
Players can expect sharper graphics, smoother animations, and a more dynamic environment. Performance improvements will lead to faster frame rates and shorter loading times, making the overall experience more fluid and engaging.
According to Agnieszka Besz, Decentraland’s Engineering Manager, the desktop client can now support more users in the same virtual space. Previously, the platform was restricted to around 100 users per realm due to performance constraints.
This release also reflects Decentraland’s renewed focus on enhancing social interactions within the platform. Upcoming features like quests and badge systems aim to encourage player engagement and track progress.
One of the first major tests of the new client’s capabilities will be Decentraland’s annual three-day music festival in November, where large-scale gatherings will put the platform’s upgrades to the test.

What’s next to Decentraland?
Whilst the desktop client is the current priority, Decentraland is also exploring the possibility of integrating virtual reality (VR) into the platform in the future.
The team sees VR as a way to offer a more immersive experience but intends to perfect the desktop version’s performance before moving forward with VR development.
For now, the desktop client represents a major step forward in improving Decentraland’s functionality and user experience.
The public beta will be available for both Mac and Windows users on October 22.
