Gaming communities remain uncertain following the dismissal of Dr. Disrespect, legal name Guy Beahm, from his role at game development studio Midnight Society, creators of web3 shooter Deadrop.
The news comes on the heels of serious accusations against the streamer involving his interactions with a minor.
The event casts a shadow over the future of both Midnight Society and the Deadrop title, with which Beahm had been closely involved in the development, funding and marketing.

How did Midnight Society respond?
The studio reacted quickly to the controversy, announcing the end of their relationship with Beahm through a Twitter release. Studio lead Robert Bowling, formerly associated with the Call of Duty franchise, stated via his Twitter account, “If you inappropriately message a minor, I cannot work with you. Period.”
Beahm acknowledged that while his engagement with a minor was inappropriate, his actions were not criminal. In the wake of his admission, however, several brands have cut ties with the content creator.
Public discussion continues to follow Midnight Society’s statement and actions, with some comments calling into question the level of evidence on display.

What does it mean for stakeholders and the community?
Dr. Disrespect’s actions have had widespread effects, leaving marks not only on the integrity of Midnight Society but also interfering with its business operations, particularly within the NFT sphere.
The studio issued “tower key” game passes retailing for $25 USD in March 2023, following their initial round of NFT-based Founders Access Pass offerings in November 2022.
Following the release of the allegations, floor prices for these game access NFTs on secondary marketplaces have decreased sharply. Users who invested in the NFTs have demanded refunds, despite a policy on the Midnight Society website stating that the purchases are final due to their immutable nature.
Current events have also generated skepticism among backers and fans alike, with some questioning the feasibility of Deadrop without Dr. Disrespect’s support.
Prospects for Deadrop amid uncertainty
Despite these issues, Deadrop still has users focused on a path forward.
Mayor Reynolds, a dedicated game streamer and promoter, continues to give the game his full support, stating, “I believe in the vision for the game and the studio… It was never about a single person.”
Midnight Society is expected to move forward with the project, planning an early access rendition of Deadrop available on PC and gaming consoles later in the year.
