Last week, Web3 games studio Epic League became the latest company to partner with Polygon – but what games will come out of this?
Behind the headlines of hacks, exploits and bear market woes, major partnerships continue to be formed in Web3.
On August 4th, Epic League – the South Korean game development studio – announced a global partnership with Polygon to launch several blockchain games in the coming months.
Polygon have put their money where their mouth is, making an undisclosed investment into Epic League itself, joining backers such as Griffin Gaming Partners, Netmarble and Neowiz, contributing to a $100mil valuation for the Seoul-based firm.
The first game to be launched as part of this partnership will be Dark Throne, a gritty hack-and-slash action RPG. Back in June, the game – featuring the striking visuals of Marvel and DC Comics cover artist Jeehyung Lee – completed a successful beta test ahead of a projected Q3 2022 launch, demonstrating a 67.8% retention rate.
Urvit Goel, VP of Global Business Development for Gaming at Polygon, celebrated the partnership:
“Epic League has the potential to bring new users to Web3 through its gaming ecosystem. The team’s prior experience working with major gaming and entertainment firms bodes well for its future. We’re delighted to bring Epic League into the Polygon ecosystem, and are excited for our customers to be able to play Dark Throne and future Epic League titles.”
Providing further details on this announcement, Jay Kim, Executive Director of Epic League, said:
?When the full version of Dark Throne is launched in Q3 2022, in addition to exploring PvE dungeons, a PvP arena mode and a Boss Raid mode, an NFT rental service and marketplace will be introduced. At Epic League, we strive to make blockchain games easily accessible, enabling our players to enjoy quality games and experience more advanced blockchain GameFi services,”
“We resonate with Polygon?s vision of an open and borderless world. We have collaborated with them as strategic partners in aggregating scalable, interoperable, and secured solutions to embrace the diversity of gamers.?
Epic League Business Executive, Sinhae Lee, added:
“After the beta test, we began collaborating with Polygon and spoke with investors who recognized the game’s market viability. Currently, we are totally occupied with preparations for the official launch at the end of this August,”
“As the official launch nears, there will be a pre-registration event, and anyone with an email address and MetaMask can participate. It begins on August 8, and participants will receive many gifts alongside the official launch.”
