Blockchain Bulletin: November 15 – November 21
Hot Wheels hits WAX, chris (simpsons artist) brings his surreal humour to the blockchain and Costume Clash release their latest NFT minigame – here’s the biggest stories on WAX this week!
Hot Wheels
This Tuesday at 18 UTC, beloved die-cast brand Hot Wheels launch their inaugural line of NFTs on the WAX blockchain.
Developed by the same design team that brings us the iconic mini motors, the Hot Wheels NFT Garage is a set of digital blister packs – akin to their physical counterparts – showcasing a range of stunning custom cars from Hot Wheels’ history.
Two different packs are available; a 4-pack for $15 USD, and a 10-pack for $35 USD – credit card only.
Four different rarities make up the collection – Base, Rare, Premium and Treasure Hunt. NFTs in the latter two rarities are redeemable for a matching, limited-edition physical Hot Wheels die-cast.
Find out more about the drop, as well as the free Promo Packs, here.
Opinion: This drop has created considerable hype within the community – moreso than a few of the recent big IP releases on WAX. Hot Wheels is such an iconic, familiar collectibles brand for many of us that it’s no surprise that it’s struck such a chord – I was a huge Hot Wheels fan as a kid, spending many carefree days imagining that my bedroom was some sort of street-racing haven, and I’m sure many of us have similar memories from days long since past.
The chance of pulling a redeemable NFT is 5.56% – slightly better than 1 in 18 – and I’ve no doubt that these redeemables will be hot property.
Chris (simpsons artist)
This Thursday at 18 UTC, “The Internet’s Picasso” himself chris (simpsons artist) brings his DeadHappy collection to WAX.
Sometimes critical, sometimes controversial and always outlandish, chris’s work has graced our screens since the dawn of the social media age, and for the first time, his work will be available as NFTs via this drop.
Two different packs are available; a Standard Pack (5 NFTs for $30 in WAXP), and a Mega Pack (10 NFTs for $50 in WAXP).
Included in the total pool of 25,000 NFTs up for grabs are 6 vIRL NFTs, which can be redeemed for collectibles pieces of physical art from chris (simpsons artist) himself.
Discover the full details of the drop here.
Opinion: I remember chris’s art leaving me in stitches way back in my school days, and I certainly have a soft spot for his wacky, unusual brand of surreal humour. If his online shop is anything to go by, I cannot wait to see what these redeemable vIRLs will look like, and I dare say there will be many others feeling the same way, and eager to get their hands on one.
Costume Clash: Vehicular Warfare
This Friday at 20:00 UTC, NFT-powered browser game Costume Clash release their next minigame Vehicular Warfare, in conjunction with a Event Card drop.
Created by multi-award winning Irish video game developers Stratton Studios, perhaps best known for their Halloween-themed PS4 & PS5 title Costume Kingdom, Costume Clash is a player-directed, browser-based title set in the same universe, where users can utilise Stratton Studios NFTs purchased on the WAX blockchain within a series of minigames.
This latest minigame Vehicular Warfare is a Mario Kart-esque arcade racer, where players put their foot to the floor whilst using items, speed boosts and all their racing acumen to reach the chequered flag before their rivals.
A special, limited-edition event Hallowmon character NFT will also be released to celebrate this launch.
Head to the Stratton Studios Discord for the latest information.
Opinion: I’ve been following the work of Josh and the rest of the Stratton Studios team for some time now, and I’ve been consistently impressed with their output. Costume Clash has come far in a short space of time, and the fact that they put the future development of the game fully into the hands of its players is a refreshing element which works perfectly with the community-focused nature of the WAX blockchain.
I’ve been able to get early access to Vehicular Warfare several times this week, and I’m sure that the community will fall in love with it when it launches this Friday. It’s fast, it’s furious, and it’s heaps of fun!
Track of the Week
This week, we?re listening to La Noche Ladrona by El Trance Del Mimo feat. Marian Yanchik, available as an NFT through cXc Music. This track espouses so many different emotions that it’s a mind-boggling experience to listen to. It’s truly bizarre, but absolutely fantastic – take a few minutes out of your day to give it a listen and you’ll see what I mean!
