Two blockchain gaming heavyweights collide!
At GDC 2023, Immutable and Polygon Labs have announced a strategic alliance aimed to accelerate the development and adoption of web3 gaming.
With combined investor funding of close to $2 billion in 2022, this partnership is expected to have a significant impact not just on web3 gaming, but the multi-billion dollar games industry at large.
How are Immutable and Polygon working together?
At the core of this alliance is the brand-new Immutable zkEVM, an EVM-compatible zk-rollup, powered by Polygon and with full integration into Immutable’s platforms. This will make developing web3-enabled games faster, easier and less risky for game studios and indie developers alike.
Exclusively for NFT Insider, Sungmo Park, Head of Polygon BD in Korea, said:
“An Immutable and Polygon Labs partnership solves the end-to-end blockchain games dilemma and opens the door to more mainstream adoption. This is a positive move for gamers – both gamers that are playing blockchain games, as well as game developers who can now more easily develop games.”
What does this mean for game developers?
This alliance simplifies decision-making for business leaders, and provides a smart, safe choice for developers that accelerates development speed and provides access to one of the largest and most liquid ecosystems available for end users.
Robbie Ferguson, President and Co-Founder at Immutable, said:
“With Polygon’s best-in-class zkEVM technology, we are building an Ethereum-centric gaming ecosystem that is poised to take web3 mainstream and bring digital ownership to millions of people around the world. Billions of dollars of skins are sold each year with no rights for players – we’re changing that so players are in control, and ownership is the expectation.”
Ryan Wyatt, President at Polygon Labs, added:
“Partnering with Immutable is a monumental step forward in our mission to empower developers and enable users to truly own their in-game assets. By leveraging Immutable’s top world-class gaming platform, game development becomes seamless, allowing for the creation of rich and unique gaming experiences.”
Immutable and Polygon have both experienced significant growth over the past two years. Polygon Labs has created one of the largest ecosystems for web3 games worldwide, working with publishers such as Square Enix, whilst Immutable has developed the first zk-rollup for NFTs on Ethereum, attracting more than 140 new titles onto the blockchain, working with brands such as GameStop, DC Comics and Marvel.
