Popular web3 mech-based shooter MetalCore has revealed plans to migrate the game to the Solana blockchain, aiming to improve both performance and accessibility for its user base.
This move seeks to provide faster transactions and reduce costs, allowing for a smoother experience for both new and seasoned players.
This also aligns MetalCore with Solana Labs’ GameShift platform to enhance support for in-game purchases and simplify access for users less experienced with blockchain technology.
Why Solana?
The decision was made due to Solana‘s high-throughput network offering the scalability needed for rapid transaction speeds which is a critical factor for MetalCore’s in-game interactions. The network’s infrastructure minimizes transaction fees, making the game more accessible for players.
“We’re thrilled to bring MetalCore to Solana, leveraging its infrastructure to enhance the on-chain user experience and unlock Solana’s unique advantages,” said Matt Candler, CEO of Studio369. “Metalcore has repeatedly won best web3 game awards, and we want to bring the best infrastructure to our players so they can enjoy the game in the most convenient and frictionless way possible.”
The integration with GameShift will also bring a consolidated in-game marketplace and streamlined payment options, designed to benefit both traditional and blockchain-savvy users by improving transaction efficiency.
What’s ahead with the migration?
The migration to Solana is set to align with MetalCore’s Season 2 launch in November.
During this period, current players will have the opportunity to bridge their in-game assets to Solana, ensuring continuity of their holdings, whilst new players will begin directly on the Solana network.
Season 2 will also carry forward recent enhancements from Season 1: MetalPunk Rhapsody, such as an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, additional gameplay modes, and an onboarding process that removes the need for a crypto wallet.
