MetaMask, MasterCard and Baanx to Launch Crypto Debit Card

MetaMask, a popular self-custodial crypto wallet, has partnered with Mastercard and Baanx to launch a new crypto debit card—the MetaMask Card.

This card enables users to spend their cryptocurrency directly from their MetaMask wallets without needing to convert their funds into fiat currency through a bank.

By integrating with Mastercard, the MetaMask Card can be used at any location that accepts Mastercard, making it easier for users to spend their crypto assets.

Enhanced Security and Convenience

The MetaMask Card allows users to convert cryptocurrency into fiat currency at the moment of purchase, ensuring that they maintain control over their digital assets until the transaction is made.

This direct spending feature provides both security and convenience, eliminating the need for multiple steps to transfer funds to a traditional bank account. The card is particularly advantageous for users looking to manage their finances entirely within the crypto ecosystem.

By utilizing the Linea network, the MetaMask Card offers fast and secure transactions, paving the way for more widespread adoption of cryptocurrency in everyday financial activities.

How do I apply for a MetaMask Card?

The MetaMask Card is initially available to a select group of users in the EU and the UK, with plans for expansion to other regions.

Eligible users can check their status through the MetaMask Portfolio, where they can set up their accounts on Baanx’s Crypto Life platform via a new “Card” tab.

“MetaMask Card pilot gives people more freedom to spend their crypto,” says Lorenzo Santos, Senior Product Manager at Consensys. “MetaMask Card represents a major step to removing the friction that has traditionally existed between the blockchain and real-world commerce. This is a paradigm shift that offers the best of both worlds.”

The card supports cryptocurrencies like $USDC, $USDT, and $WETH and integrates with mobile payment systems such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.
