Oxalis Games has shared new development updates for Moonfrost, introducing several new gameplay systems and locations, along with a revised timeline for the game’s Early Access launch—now expected in the second half of May 2025.
Originally planned for release earlier this year, the game’s development timeline was adjusted to focus on expanding features and improving technical performance. In place of a planned sixth alpha build, the developers opted to concentrate efforts on preparing the Early Access version for broader release.
Moonfrost will be available on PC and Mac through the Epic Games Store, with a mobile version planned for a later stage. The game includes blockchain-based item ownership through a partnership with Open Loot, though Oxalis Games says this will not require players to engage directly with cryptocurrency tools.

What’s new with Moonfrost?
One of the most requested features, fishing, has now been implemented and was recently tested by members of the game’s community. Feedback from Moonfrost playtesters was generally positive, with suggestions including competitive elements such as leaderboards and cooperative gameplay.
A new Mountain map will also be introduced in the upcoming version of the game. The area includes distinct fishing zones with varying species, as well as features tied to progression and resource collection. Developers noted that the area may later support shared or multiplayer functionality, though this will not be part of the initial Early Access release.
Additional features under development include cooking, livestock animals, storage systems, and a task log connected to NPC interactions. A new item rarity system featuring nine distinct tiers will be implemented as part of the game’s progression mechanics.
A whitepaper is expected to be published in the coming weeks, providing further details on game systems and how progression and item ownership will work.

What will the partnership with OpenLoot bring?
The game will incorporate blockchain elements through a partnership with Open Loot, a platform designed to facilitate ownership and trading of digital items. According to the team, players will not need to manage cryptocurrency wallets or interact with blockchain interfaces.
Each player will have a secure wallet automatically created. There will be no requirement to use cryptocurrency to buy or sell items, as standard payment methods such as credit cards and PayPal will be supported. Gas fees and seed phrases will also be removed from the user experience.
Oxalis Games has indicated that this system is intended to allow item ownership and trading whilst keeping gameplay accessible to those unfamiliar with web3 technologies.
