Web3 idle RPG Onchain Heroes is launching its second season this week and will introduce significant changes to core gameplay, including a full character reset, new mechanics, and a two-phase progression system.
Season 2, titled Dragma, brings a new high-risk boss battle and redefines how players earn and use the game’s native token, $HERO.
All Genesis Heroes will return to level one, with players required to reassemble their loadouts and navigate a more competitive, high-stakes environment.

What’s new in Season 2?
Onchain Heroes Season 2 introduces Dragma, a newly revealed world boss character described as a destructive force that feeds on $HERO energy. Players will encounter Dragma later in the season during Phase 2, but must prepare by progressing through battles against its Underlings during the initial phase.
Gameplay begins with all characters reset to level one. To play, users must hold two NFT assets—a Genesis Hero and a Weapon—both of which are available on secondary marketplaces. Optional items like Genesis Rings and $HERO tokens can enhance performance but are not required.
In Phase 1, players stake their hero and weapon for a minimum of six hours to participate in battles. The amount of $HERO earned is based on the damage dealt, which now considers the hero’s level, the weapon’s Sharpness, and its Durability. A level 10 hero with moderate stats might generate approximately 2,520 $HERO per day.

Dragma and the return of leaderboard rewards
Dragma, described in-game as a being formed from broken timelines, functions as both the thematic and mechanical centre of the season. In Phase 2, players will face off against this world boss in high-risk battles. These encounters carry the possibility of permanent character loss, with no level cap in place.
Meanwhile, leaderboard mechanics have been redesigned to reward sustained effort rather than passive accumulation. Players earn Leaderboard Points (LBP) through in-game actions such as levelling up, repairing gear, sharpening weapons, and crafting. Risk-heavy options, like “Unknown Leveling,” provide more points when successful. Remixing gear and minting new weapons also contribute.
At season’s end, players with high leaderboard rankings will receive rewards including Genesis Rings, additional $HERO tokens, and other in-game items. Abstract XP will also be recorded across the wider Abstract Chain gaming ecosystem.

Changes to the Gacha Zone
Season 2 also updates the Gacha Zone — the area of the game focused on weapon acquisition and improvement. Players have three main options:
- Pull random weapons
- Remix two weapons into a new one
- Mint gear directly using $HERO
These mechanics allow players to incrementally improve their loadouts, which in turn affects their performance in combat and position on the leaderboard.
What’s next for Onchain Heroes?
The development team has indicated that Season 2 will introduce more complex mechanics and increased player risk compared to the first season.
Whilst a precise launch date has not been confirmed, the update is expected to go live within the week. Official documentation outlining gameplay changes and technical systems is currently available to the public.
Onchain Heroes continues to operate entirely on the Abstract Chain, using on-chain verifiable random functions (VRF) for fairness and transparency in outcomes.
