Web3 TCG Parallel Debuts on Epic Games Store

Ethereum-based trading card game (TCG) Parallel has held its official launch on the Epic Games Store, helping the title to reach a wider audience and expand its player base.

With the Epic Games Store boasting 270 million users by the end of 2023, including 75 million active monthly players, Parallel’s launch on the platform is set to significantly enhance its visibility, and hopefully engagement.

Earlier this year, Parallel Studios raised $35 million in funding, and used that to launch their Planetfall game expansion, and by launching on the Epic Games Store, they’re hoping to see further growth in their playerbase.

Expanding to a mainstream audience

Parallel integrates NFTs minted on Ethereum and Layer-2 blockchain Base with traditional non-tokenized in-game cards. After a successful open beta earlier this year, the game has steadily expanded its player count.

To celebrate the launch of Parallel on the Epic Games Store, players who download the game – which is available for free – will receive five additional “Apparition Packs”, containing non-NFT cards.

“Parallel going live on Epic opens us up to millions more players worldwide, but we don’t plan to stop there,” said Franklin Fitch, Head of Partnerships at Parallel Studios. “As we roll out more ways to access and play Parallel, we also plan to scale our competitive prize pool into millions of dollars next year.”

Increased Focus on esports and Future Expansions

Parallel Studios is placing a strong emphasis on esports, and is planning to award over $500,000 USD in prizes during the first year of Parallel’s League competitions. According to Fitch, future prize pools may increase as the playerbase of the game expands.

In addition to the PC version available via the Epic Games Store, a mobile release for iOS and Android is also in the works, and ongoing esports allow players to sharpen their skills ahead of the big-money competitions to come.
