A week-long conference takes centre stage for all things NFTs, Web3 and blockchain gaming, in a country that’s taken the industry to heart. Will it be as big as it claims?
Get ready for a week chock-full of all things Web3!
From November 14-18, the Marquis Events Place at Bonifacio Global City, Philippines, will play home to the country’s supposed largest in-person crypto gathering, Philippine Web3 Festival.
The week-long celebration organised by Yield Guild Games – a play-to-earn gaming guild – and BlockchainSpace – a data and Web3 infrastructure provider – intends to bring together founders, developers, gamers, venture capital funds, and industry leaders alike to show where the industry currently stands and its future in Web3.
Peter Ing, Founder of Blockchain Space, shared in a press release:
The Philippines has one of the most vibrant GameFi and Web3 communities in the world. In an effort to maximize opportunities stemming from the countrys position in the space, it is important to help pave the way for Web3 innovation here by boosting the strengths of the local crypto scene. What better way to do this other than a celebration of Philippine Web3 as festive as the community itself?
Gabby Dizon, Co-founder of Yield Guild Games, also added:
The Philippine Web3 Festival is the first truly international showcase of Filipino talent and we are bringing the worlds best in Web3 to the Philippines to see it for themselves.
Since its initial announcement, the team has revealed the lineup of speakers featuring Web3 industry leaders already headlining the event: Jeffrey Jiho Zirlin, Co-founder of Axie Infinity; Yat Siu, Chairman and Co-founder of Animoca Brands; and Sebastian Borget, Co-founder of The Sandbox.
Other attendees include Polygon, Solana, Chainalysis, Houbi, Binance, Cyrpto.com, GAMEE, Mirai Labs, Playdex and many, many more.
The event will also feature sessions from blockchain protocols, including Polygon, TZ APAC the Asia-based blockchain adoption entity supporting the Tezos ecosystem and Xpla, a Tendermint-based and developer-friendly chain that hosts an ecosystem of decentralised applications and developer tools.
Kenneth Stern, General Manager at Binance Philippines, stressed the significance of the country in paving the way for Web3 innovation and commented:
Since the Philippines has potential as one of the big players in the Web3 space, we believe it is important to support the initiatives and movements to develop the industry further.”
Event Overview
The Philippine Web3 Festival 2-Day Hackathon has just wrapped up, and we still have a lot to look forward to.
The official event registration cocktail opened at 5:00 UTC on November 14 at The Island Bar, Bonifacio Global City, and was open to all Web3 Festival Ticket Holders. As a precursor to the events official kickoff party, Panimula (a Filipino translation of Introduction) organised by MetaverseGo, HashZ, and MetaCare at Revel, took place at the Palace, Bonifacio Global City from 10:00 UTC to 16:00 UTC.
The official conference days will run from 1:00 to 10:00 UTC on November 15 – 18, featuring keynote speakers focusing on different themes each day.
The first day of the conference will serve as a crash course for all participants on the different aspects of Web3, with five keynote speeches to look forward to. Jeffrey Jiho Zirlin, Co-founder of Axie Infinity and Gabby Dizon, Co-founder of Yield Guild Games, are amongst some of the notable speakers on day one.
The central theme for the second day is all about blockchain infrastructures, with seven keynote speeches to be presented by Polygon Technology, BNB Chain Labs, Binance and more.
The final day will highlight panel discussions on content creation, art, and the gaming side of Web3, featuring representatives from Delphi Digital, BinaryX, OP Games, Mirai Labs, Big Time Studios, AO Labs and MixMarvel, to name a few.
In addition to the scheduled conference, a myriad of side events organised by different Web3 groups will take place around the venue. All attendees can enjoy NFT exhibits, networking at community-led side events, and an Axie Infinity tournament with a $120,000 prize pool by Sky Mavis.
If you wish to attend in person, head to the Philippine Web3 Festival website to purchase your tickets via credit cards, e-wallets or crypto.
Whilst the Philippine Web3 Festival is hosting the official conference, some side events have their own registration, and you may contact the event organiser for more details.
Opinion
There’s no denying that gaming is a massive factor in the Philippines exposure to Web3, primarily since the initial (and continued) popularity of Axie Infinity, and every Web3 community built since has been instrumental in the growth of the technology.
Having such an event organised by local industry veterans is both inspiring and rewarding not only for the local community but also for anyone well-invested in the space.
But the question remains – will it be the largest crypto event in the country, and how will this influence and supercharge next-gen projects?
