Interest and investment in blockchain games continues to explode – and the industry has found a brand-new ally.
Revolving Games, an AAA-quality Web3 games studio, has announced the completion of a $25 million funding round, with Animoca Brands, Polygon and Dapper Labs taking part – as well as Co-Founder and former VP of Creativity at Rockstar Games, Dan Houser.
Houser, the creative director behind the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, has also joined Revolving Games advisory board.
Initially launched as a mobile free-to-play development house, Revolving Games, founded by Saad, Ammar and Shayan Zaeem, now has two studios and a team of over 100. This team includes some of the most knowledgeable and creative minds in the gaming, with experience on blockbuster titles such as Star Trek, Warhammer, and Elder Scrolls Online.
Revolving Games revealed their first title at Gala Games’ Galaverse conference earlier this year: a Battlestar Galactica-themed 4X strategy MMO, in partnership with Gala Games and NBCUniversal, with more details to be announced before the end of this year.
Their second title, Skyborne Legacy, will be a social adventure RPG inspired by the classic Nintendo titles The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing, and built on Polygon. Whilst the game will be officially announced in October, Skyborne’s Twitter feed has been filled with various teasers and sneak peeks over the past few weeks.
The $25 million fund will be used to continue the development of these groundbreaking games, as well as cutting-edge technology for the blockchain space.
Yat Siu, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands, proudly celebrated the partnership:
“We love the work we’re seeing from Revolving Games and in particular its passion for building a Web3 ecosystem of exciting, unique gaming experiences. We believe Revolving Games has a bright future and we are delighted to lend our support.”
As the video game industry rapidly evolves towards player-owned ecosystems, Revolving Games aims to be at the forefront of this change. Revolving Games’ Co-CEO Saad Zaeem announced that their vision is “to build AAA quality games” for “the future of gaming and gameplay”.
“We’re thrilled to be a part of this funding round. Revolving Games’ mission to create engrossing and enduring Web3 experiences resonates well with Polygon’s own gaming DNA. In line with our mission to enable players to truly own their assets and data, we are thrilled by this opportunity to support the studio’s vision and goals in the long term and help make another step toward a more inclusive and diverse future.”
Rabeel Warraich, Founder at Sarmayacar – who partook in the funding round – noted the track-record of the three brothers, and his future hopes stemming from this deal:
“Web3 gaming is an exciting space for us and we couldn’t have backed a better team than Revolving Games to execute within that space. Our hope is that RG’s inevitable success will act as a catalyst for many new technology companies emerging from Pakistan targeting Web3.”
