Sega’s trading card game ‘Code of Joker’ is making a return, with a new version set to launch later this year on the Sui blockchain.
The game, titled Code of Joker: Evolutions, is being developed by Jokers Inc. in collaboration with Parasol, a subsidiary of Mysten Labs.
Unlike its original arcade release in 2013, this updated version will be available on web browsers and mobile devices, incorporating blockchain technology to enhance digital ownership and trading capabilities.

What is Code of Joker?
Originally released by Sega in 2013, Code of Joker was an arcade-based digital trading card game that combined strategic deck-building with turn-based gameplay. Players would collect and use digital cards to battle opponents in a competitive setting, utilising a mix of skill and tactics to outmaneuver their rivals.
The game featured unique mechanics, including real-time decision-making and card evolution elements, which distinguished it from traditional physical trading card games. Despite a dedicated player base, the game was eventually discontinued, making this blockchain adaptation the first major revival of the franchise.
Whilst Sega is not directly involved in this iteration, the game still carries the legacy of its original design. The game is expected to launch in late 2025 on the Sui blockchain, bringing with it new mechanics tailored for web3.

What can we expect from this release?
Code of Joker: Evolutions will retain its trading card game mechanics whilst introducing blockchain technology to facilitate digital ownership, trading, and collection.
Players will be able to buy, sell, and verify their in-game assets on the Sui blockchain, providing a level of transparency and security not available in traditional digital card games.
“From our first conversation on what a digital experience of Code of Joker: Evolutions would look like, we knew that we wanted to match the physical feeling of opening a new card pack,” said Takashi “Gin” Mizouka, Co-founder of Jokers Inc. “Sui was the only blockchain that could make this vision a reality.”
