Sony Group has officially launched the Soneium blockchain mainnet.
Developed by Sony subsidiaries Sony Block Solutions Labs, S.BLOX Inc., and SNFT Inc., the Soneium blockchain aims to simplify blockchain adoption by providing creators and businesses with tools to develop and deploy applications seamlessly.
Alongside this launch launch are updates to the S.BLOX crypto asset exchange platform and the introduction of an NFT issuance and fan engagement service.

What is Soneium?
First unveiled in August 2024, Soneium represents Sony Group’s vision of an “Open Internet that Transcends Boundaries.” The blockchain provides developers with a powerful platform to build applications whilst offering creators tools to monetize their work and interact with audiences.
The project’s testnet, Soneium Minato, played a crucial role in its development, allowing developers to test applications before deployment. Over 14 million user accounts were created during the testnet phase, with transactions surpassing 47 million.
With the mainnet live, developers can now migrate their applications, enabling real cryptocurrency transactions and in-app payments.

Projects on the Soneium Blockchain
During the testnet phase, the Soneium Spark incubation program attracted over 1,700 applications, culminating in the support of 32 standout projects alongside many independent initiatives. These projects span various industries, including entertainment, gaming, financial services, and social applications.
A highlight is the NFT-based fan engagement platform by SNFT Inc., set to launch in February 2025. This platform will enable companies to issue NFTs and track audience engagement metrics.
Sony’s entertainment divisions are also integrating blockchain into their operations:
- Sony Pictures Entertainment (Japan): Providing exclusive content access for Prime Video film buyers.
- Sony Music Publishing (Japan): Launching NFT campaigns tied to live performances, such as those featuring the girl group SANDAL TELEPHONE.
- Sony Music France: Distributing limited-edition NFTs for the Sunny B. 1991 Web3 music community.
Sony remains committed to exploring blockchain’s potential across its business units, focusing on simplifying decentralized technologies to make them accessible and practical for creators and audiences alike.
