Square Enix Partners with Polygon for Symbiogenesis

One of the world’s biggest game developers has entered web3!

Square Enix, the Japanese gaming company behind popular titles such as Final Fantasy, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and others, has announced a partnership with Polygon to launch Symbiogenesis, an interactive, story-driven Web3 digital collectible art experience.

Naoyuki Tamate, Producer of Symbiogenesis at Square Enix, said:

“Symbiogenesis was designed from the ground up on the blockchain, and will provide an exceptional community building and trading experience. Square Enix opted to tap into Polygon’s high transaction speeds, low gas fees, and overall user-friendliness to deliver this unique experience to Web3 fans.”

What is Symbiogenesis?

Symbiogenesis sees players transported to a mysterious floating continent, uncovering the story of the world around them as they acquire pieces of digital art. The story evolves with each move the player makes, with missions unlocking further details about the secretive world and its inhabitants, and awarding the player with additional digital art.

The experience will see utility items initially issued off-chain, which players can opt to trade on-chain via Polygon. Players can also replicate and sell digital art for their character, share their unique storylines with others, and work together to complete missions.

Symbiogenesis offers multiple endings, but only three players who meet specific unknown conditions will be chosen to participate in the ?World Mission?, where they decide the true end to the story, and the fate of the world and everyone within it.

About the Story??????
The Floating Continent is home to several countries, colonies, as well as communities that comes in different sizes.

Square Enix has planned a series of campaigns to help familiarise players with the project’s integration of digital assets, ahead of the scheduled launch in Spring 2023.

Opinion

Square Enix is undoubtedly the biggest game developer to enter Web3 thus far.

This partnership continues what has been a hot start to 2023 for Polygon, following their strategic investment into Fractal, the browser’s subsequent integration of the chain, and current working relationships with popular projects such as Aavegotchi, BoomLand, Blast Royale and more.
