Web3 space explorer game Star Atlas launched the utility for their Crew Card NFTs yesterday, September 12th, allowing players to add more crew members to their fleets.
As the main Star Atlas game is still in development, Crew Cards are currently only available in Star Atlas’ 2D browser-based subsidiary game SAGE Labs.
Crew Cards are categorised by rarity and each come with a specific aptitude, a unique back story and belong to one of 7 species. These individual NFTs act as functioning crew members that can be assigned to any role in any ship a player chooses.

What is Star Atlas?
Star Atlas is a web3 grand strategy space exploration RPG built on the Solana blockchain.
The game is still in early development, but it has the rather ambitious goal of becoming a self-sustaining digital universe parallel to the real world that employs Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite technology to create an immersive experience beyond any other web3 gaming experience to date.
The finished version of Star Atlas will allow players to traverse an expansive universe in spaceships of their own design, build their fortune, conquer planets, battle rival factions, develop political influence and explore deep space.
Star Atlas’ Solana-based $ATLAS native token and trading currency allows for players to actually own all of their in-game assets, while $POLIS is the governance token that allows holders to vote on the laws of the Star Atlas universe.

What are Crew Cards?
Crew Cards were launched in Crew Packs back in May this year and until now they were NFTs without utility. Now they can be used in SAGE Labs, Star Atlas’ browser-based game.
Crew Cards provide crew members and having more crew members will increase a player’s crafting efficiency, and in the future, will increase production levels and improve aptitude efficiency.
Crew cards work anywhere across a player’s ship, but to optimise their performance players ought to assign their roles according to their aptitudes. For example, a Crew Card with an Engineering aptitude that is assigned to an Engineering role will operate more efficiently and their experience will grow faster.
Each Crew Card belongs to one of the 7 following species: Sogmians, Mirese, Punjabis, Usturs, Manus Ultima Divina, Photoli or Tufa.
Each card comes with a unique back story and randomly-generated abilities and talents that align with one of 7 different crew aptitudes: Command, Flight, Engineering, Medical, Scientist, Operator and Hospitality.
As of September 12th, all fleets have been destroyed and returned to the Central Space Station so that players can import their Crew Cards to SAGE Labs and set up their ships properly with their new shipmates in place.
