Skillcap, the developers behind web3 action RPG The Beacon, have announced that Phase 1 of the game’s New Frontiers Quest will end this Friday (June 5) at 23:59 UTC.
This concludes a period of impressive growth for the title, with thousands of players from hundreds of communities across the globe jumping into The Beacon for the first time – many of whom completing the quest to mint the Writ of Passage, an NFT which is set to be the cornerstone of game’s ecosystem.
Players can continue to collect rewards until Phase 1 closes, which will conclude with The Beacon’s “first lore-centric experience” in their new client.
What is The Beacon?
The Beacon is a free-to-play rogue-lite action RPG on Ethereum. Players enter dungeons to defeat numerous evils for glory and rewards, with both play-to-airdrop and play-to-whitelist experiences in recent weeks.
Rewards earned during Phase 1 of The New Frontiers will be made available to players in the coming weeks, and will be free to claim for all. Further details on $ARB tokens, Wings and medallions to be unveiled in the near future, with chest rewards for pet holders to be made available this week.
Skillcap have confirmed that accounts flagged for bot-like behaviour will be barred from reward claims, ensuring a fair distribution of $ARB both now and moving forward.
Those who have minted and that now hold Writ of Passage NFTs will gain early access to new content and features, amongst a host of other benefits.
What is coming in Phase 2 and Phase 3?
Skillcap have revealed that Phases 2 and 3 will arrive “in the coming months”, and will focus on general playtesting and core game balance:
- Phase 2: “Feature-focused quests to playtest things like weapons, enemies, powerups, and new zones”
- Phase 3: “Holistic playtesting of the game with a focus on balance and meta-progression”
Although weekly dungeons will close after Phase 1 concludes, between now and Phase 2, The Beacon will host “community events, more project partnerships” and “speedrun tournaments with prizes”.
Phases 2 and 3 will include “new features and experiences”, with Writ of Passage holders able to upgrade their NFTs by “completing missions”. These phases are tailored for Writ of Passage holders, but will include content for the wider community, with exclusive rewards, including “more $ARB and limited-edition items” to be issued as rewards from these phases.
Specific information on new in-game features will be announced in the coming weeks.
When will The Beacon hold its Global Launch?
According to Skillcap, the team are aiming to hold a global launch for The Beacon “by the end of the year”. Web3 and web2 versions will be released simultaneously, with “controller support and a mobile version coming soon after”.
Phases 2 and 3 are slated to be completed prior to The Beacon’s global launch.
