Popular metaverse title The Sandbox is hosting its second Builders’ Challenge, inviting the community to build experiences within The Sandbox for the chance to win a share of 1.5M $SAND – approximately $675,000.
Taking place from from June 24 to August 26, and open to both individual creators and companies, participants are tasked with using The Sandbox’s Game Maker tool to create unique games from scratch, or to put a twist on established titles. This initiative aims to empower sandbox metaverse builders to showcase their creativity and technical skills.
To take part in the contest and be eligible for $SAND rewards, all creators must undergo KYC checks, with businesses also subject to additional KYB checks.
How do I boost my share of the prize pool?
The second iteration of The Sandbox‘s Builders’ Challenge introduces a bi-weekly payout system, based on player engagement with the experiences developed. Creators can gain boosts of up to 150% to their Engagement Scores. For instance, this happens if their games include multiplayer functionality, if they use branded assets, or if they deliver totally unique experiences.
Engagement Score is determined by the number of unique players an experience attracts and their total playtime, with a minimum of 10 unique players per week required for a game to be eligible for a share of the prize pool.
Weekly updates on the Engagement Score leaderboard will be shared via The Sandbox’s forum.

Joining the Builders’ Challenge is simple:
- Have a digital wallet compatible with The Sandbox.
- Use the latest version of the Game Maker tool.
- Agree to the submission terms for your creations.
Official experiences from The Sandbox team or its brand partners cannot earn rewards. This ensures the entire prize pool goes to community creators. Experiences in the Top 100 leaderboard found inflating their Engagement Score will receive warnings or become ineligible for rewards.
