Ubisoft-Backed The Watch Enters Alpha On Epic Games Store

Ubisoft-backed competitive action RTS The Watch has begun its public alpha, now available to download for free via the Epic Games Store.

The current alpha version of The Watch features a 1v1 PvP Competitive game mode, and the Alpha Championship is scheduled to go live soon offering players the chance to win a $1,000 prize.

The Watch doesn’t currently have any web3 gaming features but it is expected that in later iterations of the game Units, Powers and cosmetic rewards will act as assets that can be minted into NFTs.

What is The Watch?

The Watch is a real time PvP strategy game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where AI threatens to extinguish the human race, and players must fight to put an end to this threat.

The game merges the strategic play of RTS with MOBA aspects to create an immersive and engaging blockchain gaming experience.

The overarching story is written by the players; they must work together to complete various global objectives. These global objectives are divided into episodes which are further divided into seasons.

The public alpha has launched with The Watch’s first global objective that challenges players to locate and secure airdrops in the middle of the map. So far over 1,000 have been secured.

What to expect from the Public Alpha?

During this initial phase, only the Competitive game mode is available, though there are plans for a Versus mode to be added in the near future. The developers are also planning to add a tutorial mode to help first time players with figuring out The Watch’s unique style of gameplay.

Currently the gameplay revolves around 1v1 PvP matches where players must select their own Army units and unique set of Powers before heading into battle against other players.

The winner of each skirmish is the player who destroy their enemy’s Core first; this is the heart of a player’s base and their Units’ spawn point. Each core is defend by two turrets; if you take down your enemy’s turrets you can destroy their Core which will win you the game and earn you some Social Credits.

Social Credits and Shards are in-game currencies that can be used to unlock new Powers and other cosmetic items. Social Credits, Shards and cosmetics can also be unlocked via the seasonal Battle Pass.
