Trezor, a popular crypto hardware wallet manufacturer, has unveiled its latest product lineup at BTC Prague 2024, showcasing the new Trezor Safe 5 as its flagship model.
Priced at $169 USD, the Trezor Safe 5 features a large color touchscreen with haptic feedback, and incorporates an advanced secure element certified to meet EAL 6+ standards. It offers a 20-word backup using Shamir’s secret sharing, ensuring enhanced security for users.
Designed to support the storage, management, staking, and use of thousands of cryptocurrencies, the Trezor Safe 5 seamlessly integrates with the Trezor Suite desktop and mobile apps.

What other products were announced?
In addition to the Safe 5, Trezor announced a Bitcoin-only variant of the hardware wallet, available to pre-order now. The Bitcoin-only variant is expected to ship from July, with additional colour variants slated for release in mid-August.
“Understandably, many crypto enthusiasts lack trust in exchanges and are looking for an easy and secure way to interact with their crypto assets,” said Matěj Žák, CEO of Trezor. “However, with hardware wallets often designed more for ‘hodling’ crypto rather than using crypto on a more regular basis, we saw that there was an opportunity to bring something new to the sector — enter the Trezor Safe 5, the ultimate hardware wallet for crypto users looking for everyday utility along with the highest level of security and effortless usability.”
Alongside these hardware releases, Trezor also introduced “Trezor Expert”, a personalized onboarding service priced at $99 to help new customers and those unfamiliar with crypto to securely set up their hardware wallets with confidence.

The differences between Trezor Safe 5 and Ledger Stax
Ledger, Trezor’s main competitor in the hardware wallet market, has recently started shipping its new flagship device — the Ledger Stax.
Both Trezor and Ledger offer robust security features: Ledger’s dual-layer security system provides an additional layer of protection, while Trezor’s open-source code promotes trust and transparency, enabling community audits for swift vulnerability fixes.
The Trezor Safe 5 and Ledger Stax represent two distinct approaches to enhancing the security of crypto hardware wallets, although both adopt a user-friendly approach to storing digital assets. Supporting over a thousand coins and tokens, both devices provide seamless access to a variety of exchanges and swap services.
The Trezor Safe 5 is priced at $169 USD, and prioritizes robust security and ease of use, featuring a larger color touchscreen, enhanced security measures, and the Shamir Backup feature. It is over $100 less expensive than the Ledger Stax, and is catered to users seeking maximum security when managing their digital assets.
In contrast, the Ledger Stax is priced $279 USD and focuses on its futuristic, innovative design, boasting a curved E-Ink touchscreen for extended battery life, and various connectivity options including USB C, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC, and features Qi wireless charging.
