The Sandbox has introduced a new program called Voxel Games, aimed at supporting top independent developers and studios in crafting voxel-based games.
This initiative allows developers to use popular game engines of their choice to build voxel-style games for The Sandbox metaverse whilst also distributing them across multiple platforms.
The program features collaborations with seasoned game development studios, including FRAG Games and The Devhouse Agency, providing additional support and opportunities for developers to enhance their projects.
What is the Voxel Games Program?
Voxel Games is a new program designed to help indie developers and studios create voxel-based games similar to The Sandbox’s signature voxel style.
Whilst The Sandbox already offers no-code tools like VoxEdit and Game Maker, the Voxel Games program opens the door for more experienced developers to work with advanced engines such as Unity, Unreal, and HTML5. This allows for the creation of more sophisticated games, which can be distributed both within and beyond The Sandbox ecosystem, reaching platforms such as web and mobile.
By joining Voxel Games, developers gain access to The Sandbox’s extensive user base, which boasts over 6 million accounts, as well as partnerships with major brands and entertainment franchises, offering developers exposure to a broader audience and potential high-profile collaborations.
The initiative also supports both traditional game monetization models as well as optional blockchain elements like NFTs and The Sandbox’s $SAND token, making the program accessible to developers who may not have experience with blockchain technology.
How to participate in the Voxel Games Program?
At this stage, participation in the Voxel Games program is by invitation only, with developers and studios being selected through a referral process.
