Web3 Game Captain Tsubasa: Rivals To Launch Q4 2022
Whether you’re a football fan or a manga maniac, this upcoming blockchain game by Thirdverse and BLOCKSMITH&Co. is well-worth being on your radar!
Let’s be honest; football fans and manga fans don’t typically have much in common – but both camps can join in their excitement for this upcoming blockchain game!
Captain Tsubasa, a Japanese football-focused manga series with over 70 million sales, is the setting for an upcoming Web3 game set to launch by the end of 2022 – Captain Tsubasa: Rivals.
This strategy-focused blockchain title is being developed by Thirdverse, a VR and blockchain game specialist, and BLOCKSMITH&Co., a subsidiary of mobile game developer KLab.
Players will be able to acquire and train NFT characters from the original comic series, and compete against other players to collect items and earn the token currency $TSUBASAUT, which can be used to purchase additional characters and other in-game assets.
A full explanation of the gameplay and economy of Captain Tsubasa: Rivals is now available, with additional information to be released as the game nears its release.
Yoichi Takahashi, the author of Captain Tsubasa, said:
“Being a part of a game using new technologies, such as blockchain and NFTs, is something new. Although the game is still in the works, I have high expectations for the experience it will bring for players. I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy this new game.”
Shun Fujiyoshi, Producer on Captain Tsubasa: Rivals, added:
“The inspiration of this game was the feeling of wanting to play blockchain games with my favorite IP and characters. I am humble to take this exciting challenge to create new game experiences together with everyone.”
Whilst a relatively unknown series in the West (unless you follow Kylian Mbappe’s Instagram), this popular manga series is an icon of Japanese pop culture.
This isn’t the manga’s first venture into Web3. Through their partnership with Animoca Brands, Captain Tsubasa entered The Sandbox in June 2022.
Despite football’s unquestioning popularity, there’s been a notable lack of pickup for football-based blockchain games thus far. Time will tell if Captain Tsubasa: Rivals can change that.
