Telegram-based tap-to-earn game X Empire has finally launched its $X token, although the token’s value has caused concerns amongst its players.
Of the game’s 50 million players, 6 million qualified for the airdrop. Pre-market trading saw the price of the token reach $0.0002 USD prior to launch, although as of writing, the token now sits at $0.00006 USD – a 70% drop from expected prices.
Players have taken to social media to complain about the results of the airdrop, with many claiming that they earned less than $10 USD in tokens for months of play, or they encountered unexpected fees with some of the airdrop claiming options.

How can I claim my $X tokens?
If you’ve been playing X Empire, open the game via Telegram, and your earned tokens will be displayed on the main screen.
Alongside withdrawal options – via OKX, Bybit and Bitget, or directly to your Telegram Wallet – your tokens can be donated to charity, to the CEO of Telegram Pavel Durov, or to the X Empire team.
Some of X Empire’s partners, such as Memes Lab and Staff Only, have announced that they will airdrop their own tokens to active $X holders. A suite of other apps are purported to be announcing integrations with the $X token in the near future as well.
25% of the $X token supply has been reserved for future play-to-airdrop initiatives from the X Empire team, with additional events and ways to earn these tokens expected to arrive in the coming months.

What does this mean for tap-to-earn gaming?
The poor reception to X Empire’s $X token is the latest tap-to-earn airdrop to be deemed as disappointing by the web3 gaming community at large.
Following similar performances for the tokens tied to rival games such as Hamster Kombat and Catizen, it remains to be seen what impact these token launches could have on the enthusiasm for other tap-to-earn titles, and the impact on future token launches too.
Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Games, stated last week that; “Everybody from DeFi to gaming… will have a Telegram component,” – but off the back of these recent high-profile airdrops, it remains to be seen whether or not Telegram will be a lasting partner of the web3 industry, or if its use is just a passing trend.
