Nyan Heroes Returns to Epic Games Store with Playtest 4

The Overwatch-style web3 hero shooter Nyan Heroes is set to return to the Epic Games Store for Playtest 4 from March 26 until April 13.

This highly anticipated fourth playtest will introduce a new hero, game mode and map, along with gameplay improvements and quality-of-life updates. Players will also be able to participate in an upcoming airdrop campaign, with details to be announced soon.

The latest playtest will build on the success of previous iterations of the game, since Nyan Heroes managed to surpass 100,000 players in a pre-alpha demo and later earned a spot amongst the most wishlisted games on the Epic Games Store.

What is Nyan Heroes?

Nyan Heroes is a team-based, free-to-play hero shooter developed by 9 Lives Interactive. Players control cats in powerful mech suits to wage war against evil robots on the futuristic planet of Nekovia.

The mech-shooter game uses Solana blockchain technology to create an economy powered by the game’s native $NYAN token, allowing players to own and trade their mechs and in-game assets as NFTs.

Despite its web3 elements, Nyan Heroes is also designed to appeal to traditional gamers with its blend of fast-paced FPS combat and strategic team-based gameplay, similar in style to popular web2 shooters like Overwatch and Apex Legends.

What to expect from the upcoming playtest?

Playtest 4 will introduce three major updates:

• New Hero – Coco the pilot & his mech, Gizmo: A turret-deploying support hero with the ability to fortify allies and control high ground. Coco’s ultimate ability transforms him into a giant mech that throws explosives and supplies teammates with armour.
• New Game Mode – Fishball: Inspired by Call of Duty’s Uplink, teams compete to carry or throw a pufferfish-like ball into the opponent’s goal, while taking out any enemies in their way.
• New Map – New Tokyo: A fast-paced, close-quarters battlefield set in a futuristic recreation of Tokyo, designed to encourage fast, vertical gameplay that complements the new hero.

Additional updates include HUD improvements, voiceovers, music updates, new secondary weapons, and an upgraded text chat system.

Players can download Nyan Heroes from the Epic Games Store when the playtest launches on March 26, with more details on the playtest expected in the coming weeks.
