Ethereum-based action-combat title Moonray has announced that it will launch on PlayStation 5 in 2025, making it the second major Web3 game to release on the latest generation of consoles.
Developers Moonray Studios announced that they’ve received the green light from Sony to port the title to PS5, marking another big step in blockchain-powered games finding a console audience.
No exact release window has been specified, although the developers have confirmed they will share details on an Early Access soon.
For PC players, Moonray is currently available to download and play via the Epic Games Store.
What does Sony’s approval mean for web3 gaming?
With Sony‘s approval, Moonray will join Off The Grid in becoming another blockchain-powered game that’s available on PlayStation 5 consoles. Whilst details on what features Sony have permitted have not been disclosed, this could lead to more blockchain games finding console acceptance.
“As a huge fan of arena combat games, I truly hope that Moonray can inspire players to try more games in the genre, and that it encourages game developers to make more of them too,” said Hans Andersson, Chief Business Officer at Moonray Studios.
Should Moonray find success on PS5, this could help state the case for blockchain games to gain wider acceptance amongst mainstream gaming audiences.
Moonray Studios to expand in 2025
Moonray Studios has ambitious growth plans for 2025.
Q1 2025 will see the introduction of a mobile auto-battler from Moonray Studios, alongside a deeper exploration of their existing series of graphic novels created by Eisner Award-winning artist Brandon Graham.
The company has also recently announced a partnership with animation studio ReelFX, which will see the production of a variety of additional content that will expand the Moonray universe across multiple creative outlets.
