Rockstar Games may be planning to introduce a metaverse-style experience in Grand Theft Auto 6.
According to a recent report, Rockstar Games has been in discussions with content creators from platforms such as Fortnite and Roblox, as well as GTA’s existing modding community, to explore the possibility of integrating customisable features into the game.
Whilst Rockstar has not officially confirmed these details, the potential implications are significant, raising questions about how the game will be structured and whether it will include monetisation options for creators.

Is Rockstar Games considering a GTA Metaverse?
Sources indicate that GTA 6 may allow players and external creators to modify aspects of the game’s world, potentially integrating their own content, branding, and custom experiences. This would be a departure from previous GTA titles, where user-created content was limited to unofficial third-party modifications.
Rockstar’s 2023 acquisition of Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM and RedM—popular tools for hosting role-playing servers in GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2—suggests an interest in community-driven content.
“It is my firm belief that is the reason that they purchased FiveM is exactly that—to spin up a metaversal universe of custom-built experiences, and potentially UGC items, with an attached UGC creator economy,” said Pete Basgen, Global Gaming and Esports Lead for WPP Agency Wavemaker.

Potential Monetisation and the Future of GTA Online
A key question is how Rockstar might implement monetisation within a metaverse-style GTA 6.
Historically, GTA has avoided direct partnerships with real-world brands, opting for satirical in-game equivalents. However, with the game’s reported $2 billion development budget, there is speculation that Rockstar could explore new revenue streams, including official user-generated content sales or even brand integrations.
Another consideration is the impact on GTA Online. FiveM servers currently operate on a subscription model, charging players fees to access custom content and role-playing communities. If GTA 6 integrates a metaverse-style system, Rockstar could introduce a hybrid model, blending microtransactions with subscription-based premium experiences.
Despite these reports and speculations, Rockstar Games has not confirmed whether the game will include metaverse-style features.
