Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Brands, has said that Telegram will continue to play a crucial role in the growth of Web3, speaking at Zebu Live in London.
2024 has seen Telegram become a hub for tap-to-earn games, and Yung believes every Web3 project will soon adopt Telegram in some way. “Anybody with a Web3 app will have a Telegram strategy for user onboarding because it represents a distribution, advertising, and marketing vector.”
Yung emphasized its role in user education, explaining that Telegram helps projects engage users before directing them to core experiences. “Everybody from DeFi to gaming… will have a Telegram complement,” he added. As Telegram’s importance in Web3 continues to grow, it’s role in onboarding is only getting bigger.

Why is Telegram crucial for Web3?
Telegram-based tap-to-earn Web3 games such as Hamster Kombat, X Empire, Tapmonsters and more have collectively reached hundreds of millions of users worldwide.
Yung highlighted this as proof of Telegram’s ability to drive mass engagement, stating that “Telegram is representative of mass adoption.”
The Telegram app has now reached over 950 million users, with founder Pavel Durov eyeing up the 1 billion, thanks to the surge in popularity brought by Web3 games.

How is Telegram driving the growth of Web3?
Hamster Kombat is a leading example of Telegram driving the mass adoption of web3 technology, with its community of 300 million players – many of them experiencing blockchain technology for the first time.
Telegram’s support for such games shows its role in promoting Web3 technology, especially amidst an environment where many platforms are restricting games that utilise blockchain.
“Telegram is the first platform with substantial global distribution that does not place any restrictions on Web3-enabled features,” explained Yung, praising the platform for its open stance on crypto and NFTs.
