Popular anime and manga series Attack on Titan has been brought to life in the metaverse with a new survival game available on The Sandbox.
Attack on Titan: Invasion lets players take on the role of soldiers defending humanity against towering Titans in a virtual recreation of the Trost District.
With its integration into the Ethereum-based platform, this is one of the first metaverse adaptations of a major anime franchise.
What is Attack on Titan?
Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series created by Hajime Isayama, first serialized in 2009.
It tells the story of humanity’s struggle to survive against giant humanoid creatures known as Titans, who threaten to destroy the last remnants of civilization.
The series, which has been adapted into a highly successful anime, is known for its intense action, intricate storytelling, and exploration of themes like freedom, sacrifice, and human resilience.
What can we expect from this survival game?
The game, Attack on Titan: Invasion, takes place in the Trost District, a central location in the series.
Players assume the role of soldiers working to repel Titan attacks whilst completing missions alongside key characters such as Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert. The game includes a series of training stages followed by increasingly difficult invasion scenarios, leading to a final mission involving Eren.
In the game, players have the option to buy NFT avatars of characters from the series. These avatars, priced at 120 $SAND (approximately $75), can be used to represent players within The Sandbox metaverse.
Attack on Titan: Invasion is free-to-play and currently available on both Windows and Mac devices.
