Score one for IMX! Metaverse Game Studios will be bringing their massively multiplayer experience to the fledgling Layer 2!
Web3 games are set to hit new heights!
Metaverse Game Studios, an independent game studio founded by ex-League of Legends, Far Cry and Diablo Immortal developers, has announced plans to bring Angelic – their upcoming debut Web3 MMORPG – to ImmutableX, the leading gaming-focused blockchain.
This announcement follows their $10 million seed round, led by investors including Animoca Brands, which closed in March, with the funds used to grow the team and further the development of Angelic.
Anastasia Volgemut, Director of Operations at Metaverse Games Studio said:
We are incredibly fortunate to have found a partner that shares the same values as Angelic. By leveraging ImmutableX, our users can tap into the benefits of fast, secure, and gas-free minting and an uninterrupted, quality gaming experience.
Built in Unreal Engine 5, Angelic will see players roam a vibrant, collaborative sci-fi world before engaging in turn-based combat. Combining an expansive story-driven campaign with robust free-to-play MMO gameplay, players will also be able to form guilds to craft weapons, collect resources and fight to establish control over space sectors.
Metaverse Game Studios have focused on creating a game which will appeal to traditional gamers and Web3-natives alike, utilising ImmutableX to add a seamless, unobtrusive layer that enhances the core gameplay experience.
The game will be hosted off-chain, with the IMX integration giving players the ability to freely buy, sell and trade their game items on a variety of third-party marketplaces.
Angelic plans to adopt a collaborate-to-earn ethos, where players will need to work together to acquire the most sought-after game items.
Andrew Sorokovsky, VP Global Business Development at Immutable, noted:
Its great to see prominent AAA-level gaming companies such as Metaverse Games Studios actively embrace digital ownership and player-led gaming models. Were thrilled to offer the full suite of ImmutableXs tools and solutions, and collaborate with their team to deliver the fairest, most inclusive and innovative Web3 experience possible to all Angelic players.
Angelic is scheduled to enter a closed alpha test for select community members in January 2023, followed by a public launch in February.
Opinion
It’s exciting to see top-tier talent behind huge games branch out into Web3, and as a big MMO fan, I couldnt be more excited to dive into Angelic and experience the gameplay, graphics and narrative it has to offer.
What Im most excited about is the integration with ImmutableX, the first chain theyre working on, with the end-goal of becoming chain-agnostic. Seamless integration with multiple chains is the inclusive, player-friendly move – and they couldnt have picked a better initial partner than IMX.
Metaverse Games Studios are well-aware of whats required to create a mass-appeal video game, and with the combined success of League of Legends, Far Cry and Diablo Immortal, theres no doubt that Angelic has the talent behind it to attract the traditional gaming audience, and with it the sizeable player base thats a must for the success of an MMO.
