Web3 game studio PlayEmber has announced that it will be bringing its Emby Ecosystem to Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain Immutable.
Founded by industry veterans Jon Hook and Hugo Furn, PlayEmber has evolved from a traditional mobile game developer into a prominent player in web3 gaming. With a rich history at companies such as Voodoo, Lion Studios, and BoomBit, the founders have collectively contributed to over 1 billion downloads lifetime downloads.
Today, PlayEmber’s network boasts more than 120 million downloads across its various mobile apps and games, with a playerbase that reportedly exceeds 10 million accounts.
What is the Emby Ecosystem?
The Emby Ecosystem, a core part of PlayEmber’s portfolio, features over 40 casual gaming experiences – with many of them integrating blockchain elements such as NFTs and token-based incentives.
Emby has often collaborated with other well-known Web3 brands, including the likes of Pixelmon and Cool Cats, with the aim to empower both holders and players through community-driven initiatives.
The recent launch of the Emby Creator Hub provides content creators with the resources required to produce game-related content, with rewards such as sponsorships, NFTs, and exclusive event access available to dedicated creators and influencers.
Why has PlayEmber partnered with Immutable?
PlayEmber’s transition to Immutable marks a strategic shift that hopes to put the company in a strong position for the future, with Emby to be directly integrated into Immutable’s extensive blockchain ecosystem.
According to Jon Hook, “Partnering with Immutable is a significant step for the PlayEmber ecosystem as there are many promising casual game studios already working with Immutable.”
Popular titles like Emby Knight, Emby Glide, and Emby Match Them All will be integrated into Immutable’s advanced Layer-2 scaling technology, which already powers the likes of Shardbound, Gods Unchained and MetalCore.
By partnering with Immutable, PlayEmber hope to deliver faster transactions, zero gas fees, and improved security to players, alongside a more robust infrastructure that’s capable of supporting their growing playerbase.
What does this mean for the future of PlayEmber?
Before adopting blockchain, PlayEmber had already achieved success in mobile gaming with titles such as Hyper Cards, Raft Life, and Superhero Race.
The company further innovated by integrating the Lightning Network – a protocol for faster Bitcoin transfers – into several of its games, enabling players to earn Bitcoin rewards through play.
This alliance with Immutable extends their blockchain strategy, adding a new dimension to their Web3 gaming ecosystem and allowing PlayEmber to streamline the digital ownership of their in-game assets on the Ethereum network.
