The open beta for Ubisoft’s competitive web3 RPG Champions Tactics Grimoria Chronicles went live yesterday, September 18th, at 3pm UTC and will end at 6am UTC on September 23rd.
To get involved in this short beta season and playtest the tactical turn-based PvP features, players must own at least one Champion NFT. At the time of writing, the cheapest Champion NFT is going for 278 $OAS ($10.72) on the Champions Tactics marketplace.
Along with a Champion NFT players need a Ubisoft Connect account and a wallet to access the beta – WalletConnect, Brave Wallet, MetaMask and Ronin Wallet are all accepted. They can then download the game from Champions Tactics’ official website.
What is Champions Tactics?
Champions Tactics Grimoria Chronicles is an upcoming competitive PvP turn-based RPG developed by Ubisoft and built on the Oasis layer 2 network.
The game is set in the dark fantasy world of Grimoria where nobles and lords play a fantasy chess-like strategy game using their Champion figurines. According to the roadmap, Champions Tactics will launch globally later this year as a free to play game.
Ubisoft announced Champions Tactics as their maiden web3 title in spring 2023. So far, they have completed one closed beta and 2 NFT drops, during which 75,000 Champion NFTs were minted.
What to expect from the beta?
The beta offer players the opportunity to try out the new tactical PvP matches. In PvP matches players go head to head in strategic turn-based battles that begin with a draft phase.
In the draft phase players take turns to select 3 of their Champion NFTs to face their opponent. When the match starts, at the same time both players pick one of their Champions’ skills before ending their turn. The gameplay draws parallels to Pokemon battles since it’s all about predicting your opponents moves and outmanoeuvring them.
Aside from the new PvP mode, players can also complete daily quests and activate a VIP system to test out its in-game bonuses. Those who participate in the beta will have their Champions NFT masteries saved and earn an exclusive in-game title, emote and profile picture, but any gold earned will not carry over to the public launch.
