Popular web3 TCG Splinterlands is introducing significant changes to its Voucher system, in a revamp of the new player experience.
On top of making it easier for new players to enter the Spinterlands ecosystem, this update also adds a DEC/Voucher liquidity pool to the game and removes Voucher trading from decentralised exchanges, making the game more compliant with current regulations.
The ideas behind these updates were proposed to the Splinterlands community in July, and following community approval, these updates are now to be released, starting from today (August 15).

What is Splinterlands?
Splinterlands is a web3 trading card game built on the Ethereum blockchain.
Players face-off in head-to-head deck-based battles, mixing traditional TCG elements with auto-battler combat. Games are fast-paced, often lasting only a few minutes, with strategy, forward-thinking and clever tactics being key to success.
Over 500 unique blockchain-based cards can be collected, and players can also earn cryptocurrency through completing quests, succeeding in ranked play, and competing in tournaments.
What are the changes to the Voucher system?
The Voucher revamp is designed to make it easier for new and experienced players alike to interact with the Splinterlands ecosystem:
- Validator and SPS staking benefits will now be directly airdropped within the game, eliminating the need for the external SPS Chain.
- The SPS Chain Voucher and the in-game VOUCHER-G will be merged into one in-game token – meaning that rewards for the Voucher/SPS Hive-Engine liquidity pool have been discontinued indefinitely.
- Discounts on Validator licenses from Vouchers will be phased out. Players have until August 31 to purchase Wild Passes and Mage Weapons with Vouchers.
- From September 3, players can no longer user Vouchers to buy energy or boost pack discounts, with Rebellion packs reduced to 4,000 DEC.
- Also from September 3, an in-game DEC/Voucher liquidity pool and Voucher Store will both be introduced – alongside a new card – with a 12.5% Voucher burn tax to be applied if they’re transferred between players.
