Popular Ronin-based blockchain game Axie Infinity has announced that it will be making sweeping changes to the Passive Adventure mode in its Homeland title on September 4.
This update will remove randomisation from the Passive Adventure experience, with players gearing up their roster of NFT Axies to go on adventures for a variety of rewards.
Rather than random classes and combat levels, these will be determined by the inherent skills and traits of the Axies you own, giving more value to the unique aspects of each Axie, and making Axie acquisition a more strategic process.
What is Axie Infinity?
Launched in March 2018, Axie Infinity is a monster collection and management game. Players acquire Ronin-based NFT creatures called Axies, before pitting them in battle against one another.
Players earn $SLP tokens through play, which can be traded for $AXS, or used to breed additional Axies. In-game, Axies can also be used for a variety of collection and farming tasks, collecting resources and furthering their development.
Axie Infinity was the first blockchain-based game to capture worldwide attention in 2021 and early 2022, due to the high costs associated with getting started in the game, and the income that could be generated – with some using Axie Infinity as their main source of income prior to the crash in price of $SLP in February 2022.
Axie Infinity: Homeland saw its first public release in September 2023, adding an array of new tasks, new battle modes, and a general expansion to the Axie Infinity experience.
What other updates are coming on September 4?
On top of the aforementioned changes to Axie Infinity: Homeland’s Passive Adventure, an Adventure Fatigue mechanic will be introduced, limiting how many times an Axie can be sent on an adventure each day. Combat Ratings will also now be predictable, being based on the Evolved Rating of the Axie in question.
To send Axie’s on passive adventures, players will now have to use Battle Tickets – with the upside that Passive Adventures will now reward AXP to players.
The Axie Infinity developers confirmed that, should this Passive Adventure update roll our smoothly, Axie Delegation is expected to arrive in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, Moonfall Quests have been made easier and less time-consuming – and are joined by the Moonfall Chest Overflow event, running until September 18.
